In our current world, whenever you need to get analytics data out of Adobe Analytics, Customer Journey Analytics, or even Google Analytics, connecting to data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau can be complicated. Typically, it's an export of raw data and then using ETL tools to recreate any calculated metrics using the similar definitions and then trying to visualize them in a correlating way. What's great about this direct connection that was part of the hands-on lab, is that people can leverage already curated data from Customer Journey Analytics into Power BI directly so items such as derived fields and calculated metrics carry over.
Working in business insights for over twelve years, I can't tell you how many times I wanted to get curated data from the analytics platform directly into Tableau or Power BI and it would take weeks to do it. With this upcoming enhancement, it could change that process into mere hours or days.
Tip: When setting up the Postgres credentials from the Query Service into Power BI, make sure that you pay attention to the port and add that to the end with a colon (:). With this SQL connector they showed in the hands-on lab, this piece was something manual that you had to add to the end of the host and not a separate field.
For example: Host: xxxxxxxx.platform-query.adobe.io:80
This new feature launched in May 2024. I can't stress enough how much time this feature could save your data engineering teams.
Here are some benefits:
- By leveraging the same data that's building the Customer Journey Analytics Data Views, BI operators will no longer need to recreate the calculated metrics from one platform to the next.
- This will result in greater parity between platforms and less questions from Executive stakeholders about why the data doesn't match.
- Linking Customer Journey Analytics data to other data sources in BI tools will be easier as well.
If you want to find out more information, contact Blue Acorn iCi to let us show you how to get those insights out of Customer Journey Analytics and into your existing visualization tools.
Notes: You must have the Adobe Customer Journey Analytics Select package or higher in order to use this functionality. Also, this feature is first rolling out to Power BI and Tableau only.
